Thumbnail of cover for The Poor Belabored Beast

My second book of poetry. These were written in 2015, revised periodically since. The themes expand into interests I felt cowed about at first . . . but I have well decided that “do’s and don’ts” advice about poetry can’t influence my choices. This book marks the end of an early nature phase, and my settling into the political and social commentary I began with, in my imperfect first efforts found in The Nutshell Hatches (which still contains a handful of “best ofs”). Beast charts a real path upwards in my work, and offers several favorites.
Buy on Amazon, 70 pages, paperback, 6.00 US dollars.

The new look at the end of a lengthy war
A smattering of seed pearls falls from the bodice
like a cloudburst
And artfully torn are the missing parts
from the overlay of netting
Enter a plea, you have been shattered by the glass door

(from “Largo”)
