Opportunity (poem)

Oil painting of six yellow clouds and Christ-like figure

Opportunity

Some new epoch had arrived

It arrived

And came in secret

In like a brined seed ensconced

A sour pickle plastered to the hamburger bun

That crows find unpalatable

Opportunity as a figure of allegory

Your design challenge is to dress her

She wears the helmet of a Keystone Kop

And carries a Forex market in her purse

Today’s painting of a yellow ochre sky

Revealed Van der Weyden’s crucifixion

Offset by the placement of six clouds

There is iron in the blood and agitation

Migrating birds fall stunned

The lighthouse keeper imagines himself

at the helm of a great ship

And runs her aground
